۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 apart from Allah, and direct them to the path of Hell, 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 What aileth you that ye help not one another? 25 Nay, but this day they make full submission. 26 And some of them shall advance towards others, questioning each other. 27 They will say: "It was you who used to come to us from the right side [i.e. from the right side of one of us and beautify for us every evil, order us for polytheism, and stop us from the truth i.e. Islamic Monotheism and from every good deed]." 28 They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers. 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 Thus, the words of Our Lord about us have come true and now we are suffering the torment. 31 So then, [if it be true that] we have caused you to err grievously - behold, we ourselves had been lost in grievous error!" 32 On that day they will all share the torment. 33 Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: 34 Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant 35 And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?" 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom - 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 But the bondmen of Allah, the sincere ones 40 [in the hereafter,] theirs shall be a sustenance which they will recognize 41 Fruits! And they shall be honoured. 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 Facing one another on thrones. 44 A cup will be passed round among them [with a drink] from unsullied springs, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 There shall be no trouble in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith. 47 And with them shall be those who restrain the eyes, having beautiful eyes; 48 (Delicate and pure) as if they were (hidden) eggs (well) preserved. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 Said one of the speakers: "I had a friend 51 Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 Then he will say, "Shall we look for him?" 54 He therefore looked down and saw him amidst the blazing fire. 55 He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 Are we then not to die 58 “Except our earlier death, and nor will we be punished?” 59 This is indeed the mighty triumph, 60 for the like of this let the workers work.' 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 its spathes are as the heads of Satans, 65 They will eat and fill their bellies with it, 66 Washing it down with boiling water. 67 Then their return will be to the same blazing Hell. 68 Verily, they found their fathers on the wrong path; 69 So they hastily follow their footsteps! 70 And assuredly many of the ancients went astray before them, 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 Then see how was the end of those warned, 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
