The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 for those on the Right, 38
