The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 Dragging by the head, 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he selfishly withholds it [from others]. 21 Save worshippers. 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 and in whose possessions there is a due share, acknowledged [by them,] 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
