The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a return for the insolent, 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
