The chiefs of Firon's people said: most surely this is an enchanter possessed of knowledge: 109 He intends to turn you out of your land. What counsel do you then give? 110 They said: Put him off and his brother, and send collectors into the cities: 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said: "Is there reward for us if we succeed?" 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 So they said: "O Moses, you may cast your spell first, or we shall cast ours." 115 He [Musa (Moses)] said: "Throw you (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 So the (great ones) were vanquished there and then, and were made to look small. 119 And the magicians were obliged to fall prostrate. 120 They said: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 125 Thou takest vengeance upon us only because we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour out upon us patience, and gather us unto Thee surrendering.' 126
