The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 a host of the ancients 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And raised couches; 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
