The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And by the Book Inscribed. 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). 5 and the sea swarming, 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 and who indulged in false disputes against (God's revelations). 12 That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
