The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 and banana trees, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And raised couches. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
