The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 arise, and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made things easy for them. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
