Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 half the night, or a little less 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 On the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 the Day whose severity shall cause the heaven to split asunder? Allah's promise is ever bound to be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
