The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and his brightness, 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 and he who corrupts it is sure to fail. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
