Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
HaMeem 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
