The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount; 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 And the elevated canopy 5 And the swollen sea, 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 There is none that can avert it; 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
