The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
