The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
