And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 'Do they hear you when you call on them' He asked. 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 (Abraham) said, "Do you know that what you worship 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 "And the One Who feeds me and gives me to drink." 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart." 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 and Hell shall be revealed to the misguided, 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 By Allah, we have indeed been in an error manifest. 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 "Nor a caring friend." 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 In this there is evidence (of the truth), but many of them do not have any faith. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
