Al-Najm 3 of 3
Seest thou one who turns back, 33 who gave a little, and then stopped? 34 Does he have any knowledge of the world beyond the ken of sense-perception, and therefore, clearly sees (the Truth)? 35 Nay, is he not acquainted with what is in the Books of Moses- 36 And Abraham who paid his debt: 37 That no one who carries a burden bears another's load; 38 nor can man achieve anything without hard labor. 39 That (the fruit of) his striving will soon come in sight: 40 and will be fully recompensed for his deeds. 41 that all things in the end shall return to God; 42 and that it is He alone who causes [you] to laugh and to weep; 43 and that He it is Who causes death and grants life, 44 And that He createth the pair, the male and the female. 45 from a drop of sperm when it was emitted, 46 and on Him depends the life hereafter. 47 And that it is He who enriches and suffices 48 And that He it is Who is the Lord of Sirius; 49 And that He destroyed the former (tribe of) A'ad, 50 And destroyed the tribe of Thamud, not sparing anyone? 51 and that He it is Who destroyed the people of Noah before for they were much given to iniquity and transgression. 52 And He destroyed the overthrown cities [of Sodom to which Prophet Lout (Lot) was sent]. 53 So that there covered them that which did cover. 54 How many favours of your Lord will you then deny? 55 This is a warning among the warnings of yore. 56 What is to come is imminent. 57 [although] none but God can unveil it.... 58 Are you astonished at this news, 59 And you laugh at it and weep not, 60 While ye amuse yourselves? 61 Rather, prostrate to Allah and worship Him. ۩ 62

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
