He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 olives, dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and fodder 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
God the Almighty always says the truth.
