The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
