And this (Qur'an) is a revelation from the Lord of all the worlds, 192 the Faithful Spirit has brought it down 193 into your heart, so that you may be a warner, 194 In the plain Arabic language. 195 And most surely the same is in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not a Sign to them - (to wit, the Makkans) - that the learned men of the Children of Israel know that? 197 And if we had revealed it to any of the foreigners 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed. 199 We have thus caused denial of truth to enter into the hearts of the sinners: 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment. 201 And it shall come to them all of a sudden, while they shall not perceive; 202 Then they will say: Are we to be reprieved? 203 Would they then wish for Our Torment to be hastened on? 204 Therefore observe, that if We give them some comforts for some years, – 205 And then the promise that is given to them, does come upon them- 206 That which they were made to enjoy shall not avail them? 207 We never destroyed a village that did not have warners 208 for a reminder, and We never harmed. 209 It was not the devils who brought down the Quran: 210 And it behoves them not, and they have not the power to do (it). 211 Indeed they have been banished from the place of hearing. 212 So do not invoke with Allah another deity and [thus] be among the punished. 213 Warn your nearest kinsmen, 214 Lower thy wing to those who follow thee, being believers; 215 but if they disobey thee, say: "I am free of responsibility for aught that you may do!" 216 And put thy trust on the Exalted in Might, the Merciful,- 217 Who seeth thee standing forth (in prayer), 218 And your movement among those who prostrate. 219 Surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 220 Shall I tell you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They come down to every mendacious sinner, 222 They listen eagerly, but most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets - it is the seduced who follow them. 224 Did you not see that they keep wandering in every valley? 225 And that they say what they do not do. 226 Save those that believe, and do righteous deeds, and remember God oft, and help themselves after being wronged; and those who do wrong shall surely know by what overturning they will be overturned. 227
