The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Indeed there has been a time for man, when even his name did not exist anywhere. 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 We showed him the right path whether he would be grateful or ungrateful. 3 For the Rejecters we have prepared chains, yokes, and a blazing Fire. 4 the righteous shall drink from a cup mixed with the coolness of kafur, 5 which flows from a spring from which the servants of God will drink. 6 The servants of God fulfill their vows and are afraid of the day in which there will be widespread terror. 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: 9 “Indeed we fear from our Lord a day which is extremely bitter, most severe.” 10 So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, 11 And reward them, because they were patient, with garden and silk, 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 since its [blissful] shades will come down low over them, and low will hang down its clusters of fruit, most easy to reach. 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal, 15 Also there will be crystal clear goblets of silver containing the exact measure of drink which they desire. 16 And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 from a fountain called Salsabila. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 when thou seest them then thou seest bliss and a great kingdom. 20 Upon them there will be garments of green silk, rich brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure beverage to drink. 21 [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated." 22
