The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
