He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 uplifted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 olives, dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 laughing and joyous 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
