The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the heaven, and the night-visitor, 1 And what shall teach thee what is the night-star? 2 It is the star that pierces through [life's] darkness: 3 No soul is there but hath over it a watcher. 4 Let man consider what he was made of: 5 He was created from spurting fluid, 6 That issued from between the loins and ribs. 7 Most surely He is able to return him (to life). 8 The day all secrets are examined 9 (Man) will have no power, and no helper. 10 By the sky which returns [rain] 11 And [by] the earth which cracks open, 12 Behold this is the Word that distinguishes (Good from Evil): 13 it is not a jest. 14 They are cunningly devising, 15 and I too am devising a guile. 16 Therefore grant a delay to the Unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for awhile). 17
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
