The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 and raised couches 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
