The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
