He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 So you are after him! 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
