Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the luminious Book. 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 And crops and noble sites 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
