The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Praise belongs to God who has sent down upon His servant the Book and has not assigned unto it any crookedness; 1 and which rightly directs, to give warning of stern punishment from Him, and to proclaim to the believers who do righteous deeds that they shall have an excellent recompense, 2 Wherein they will abide for ever; 3 And to warn those who say: Allah hath chosen a son, 4 (A thing) whereof they have no knowledge, nor (had) their fathers, Dreadful is the word that cometh out of their mouths. They speak naught but a lie. 5 Perhaps you may destroy yourself with grief if they do not believe in this message. 6 We have appointed all that is on the earth for an adornment for it, and that We may try which of them is fairest in works; 7 And verily We are going to make whatsoever is thereon a soil bare. 8 Or deemest thou that the People of the Cave and the Inscription are a wonder among Our portents? 9 When the young men took refuge in the Cave – then said, “Our Lord! Give us mercy from Yourself, and arrange guidance for us in our affair.” 10 We lulled them to sleep in that cave for a number of years 11 Then We raised them up (from their sleep), that We might test which of the two parties was best at calculating the time period that they had tarried. 12
