'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 "Therefore fear Allah, and obey me." 131 And be careful of (your duty to) Him Who has given you abundance of what you know. 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
