The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 and a few from later times. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 facing one another. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
