Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ain. Sad. 1 This is an account of your Lord's mercy bestowed upon His servant Zachariah, 2 When he called to his Lord inwardly, 3 He said: My Lord! surely my bones are weakened and my head flares with hoariness, and, my Lord! I have never been unsuccessful in my prayer to Thee: 4 And verily I fear my kindred after me, and my wife hath been barren; so bestow on me from before Thee an heir. 5 "(One that) will (truly) represent me, and represent the posterity of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord! one with whom Thou art well-pleased!" 6 “O Zakaria! We give you the glad tidings of a son whose name is Yahya (John) – before him, We have not created anyone of this name.” 7 [Zachariah] exclaimed: "O my Sustainer! How can I have a son when my wife has always been barren and I have become utterly infirm through old age?" 8 He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me, even as I created thee before, when thou wast naught. 9 He said: My Lord! Appoint for me some token. He said: Thy token is that thou, with no bodily defect, shalt not speak unto mankind three nights. 10 Then he came forth unto his people from the sanctuary, and signified to them: Glorify your Lord at break of day and fall of night. 11 (And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold fast the Scripture. And we gave him wisdom when a child, 12 and tenderness from Us and purity, and he was cautious; 13 and cherishing his parents, not arrogant, rebellious. 14 And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive. 15
