The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the declining star, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 near which is Paradise. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
