The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 arise and give warning! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
