He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you attended to him, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
