A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 They were endowed with good things 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten – 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
