The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
ALL PRAISE BE to God who has revealed to His votary the Book which is free of all obliquity, 1 (He has made it) Straight to give warning (to the disbelievers) of a severe punishment from Him, and to give glad tidings to the believers (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism), who work righteous deeds, that they shall have a fair reward (i.e. Paradise). 2 [a state of bliss] in which they shall dwell beyond the count of time. 3 And to warn those who say: Allah hath chosen a son, 4 They have no knowledge of it, nor had their fathers; a grievous word it is that comes out of their mouths; they speak nothing but a lie. 5 Yet perchance, if they believe not in this tiding, thou wilt consume thyself, following after them, of grief. 6 Behold, We have willed that all beauty on earth be a means by which We put men to a test, [showing] which of them are best in conduct; 7 but We shall reduce all this to barren waste. 8 Or dost thou reflect that the Companions of the Cave and of the Inscription were wonders among Our Sign? 9 Behold, the youths betook themselves to the Cave: they said, "Our Lord! bestow on us Mercy from Thyself, and dispose of our affair for us in the right way!" 10 Then We smote their ears many years in the Cave. 11 Then We roused them, in order to test which of the two parties was best at calculating the term of years they had tarried! 12
