۞ Gather all the wicked together and their comrades, and those they had worshipped 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 And detain them, for they will be questioned." 24 "Why help you not one another?" 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 [To which] the others will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were bereft of all faith! 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 The statement of Our Lord is realized against us, and we are tasting it, 31 So then, [if it be true that] we have caused you to err grievously - behold, we ourselves had been lost in grievous error!" 32 On that Day they will all share the punishment: 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 They were the ones, who on being told, "God is only One," become puffed-up with pride 35 And they used to say, “Shall we forsake our Gods upon the sayings of a mad poet?” 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 You shall certainly taste the painful punishment: 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 For them awaits a known provision, 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 in the Gardens of Bliss 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 With cups from a flowing stream being passed around, 45 White, delicious to those who drink. 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 And with them will be chaste females, restraining their glances (desiring none except their husbands), with wide and beautiful eyes. 48 who are as chaste as sheltered eggs. 49 They will turn to each other and ask questions. 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrection after death). 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 [And] he adds: "Would you like to look [and see him]?" 54 He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell. 55 He said, “By Allah, you had nearly ruined me!” 56 And had it not been for the favour of my Lord, I too had been of those haled forth (to doom). 57 Are we then not to die 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 This will indeed be great happiness. 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is this better or the tree of Zaqqum 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell; 64 Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils. 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. 68 Verily they found their fathers gone astray. 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 Before them erred most of the ancients, 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 Observe, then, what was the end of those that had been warned, 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
