He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 May man be slain how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and let the earth to break open 26 to yield therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
