The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 and taught to him 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
