[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 And be careful of (your duty to) Him Who has given you abundance of what you know. 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
