Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
