۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshippers of them. 53 He said: "Certainly you and your fathers have all been in manifest error." 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify. 56 And, by Allah! I will certainly do something against your idols after you go away, turning back. 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers' 64 then they hung their heads, and said, "O Abraham! You know they cannot speak." 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" 68 We said: "O fire, become coolness and safety for Abraham." 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 And unto Lot we gave judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the community that did abominations. Lo! they were folk of evil, lewd. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
