The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
