(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists). 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
