(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said, 'This is a she-camel; to her a draught and to you a draught, on a day appointed, 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
