Do you not see that the ships run on in the sea by Allah's favor that He may show you of His signs? Most surely there are signs in this for every patient endurer, grateful one. 31 For [thus it is with most men:] when the waves engulf them like shadows [of death,] they call unto God, sincere [at that moment] in their faith in Him alone; but as soon as He has brought them safe ashore, some of them stop half-way [between belief and unbelief]. Yet none could knowingly reject Our messages unless he be utterly perfidious, ingrate. 32 O mankind! Fear your Lord, and fear the Day in which no father will benefit his child; nor will any good child be of any benefit to the father; indeed Allah’s promise is true; so never may the worldly life deceive you; and never may the great cheat deceive you in respect of Allah’s commands. 33 Surely Allah alone has the knowledge of the Hour. It is He Who sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs, although no person knows what he will earn tomorrow, nor does he know in which land he will die. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware. 34
