In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Sad: By the Qur'an, Full of Admonition: (This is the Truth). 1 Nay, but the unbelievers are steeped in arrogance and stubborn defiance. 2 How many a generation We destroyed before them, and they cried out when it was no longer the time for escape! 3 They wondered that a warner had come to them from among themselves, and the deniers of the Truth said: “This is a sorcerer, and a big liar. 4 “Has he made all the Gods into One God? This is really something very strange!” 5 The chiefs among them departed saying: go, and persevere in your gods; verily this is a thing designed. 6 "We never heard (the like) of this among the people of these latter days: this is nothing but a made-up tale!" 7 What! Upon him alone from among all of us should a [divine] reminder have been bestowed from on high?" Nay, but it is My Own reminder that they distrust! Nay, they have not yet tasted the suffering which I do impose! 8 Or, have they the treasuries of the Mercy of your Lord, the Almighty, the Giving? 9 Or is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them theirs? Then let them ascend by ropes! 10 [They are but] soldiers [who will be] defeated there among the companies [of disbelievers]. 11 To the truth gave the lie aforetime Noah's people, and [the tribe of] Ad, and Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles, 12 And (the tribe of) Thamud, and the folk of Lot, and the dwellers in the wood: these were the factions. 13 not one, that cried not lies to the Messengers, so My retribution was just. 14
