A throng of the ancients 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers – 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 Verily we are undone. 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
