Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 In a Garden on high, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 raised couches, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And linen spread out. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
